The Black Cat Review Edgar Allan Poe

And so came, as if to my last and irrevocableoverthrow, the feeling of PERVERSENESS. Of this spirit philosophy takesno account. Yet I am not more certainly that my soul lives, than I am thatperverseness is one of the primitive impulses of the human heart-one of the indivisible primary faculties, or sentiments, which givedirection to the case of Man.

Who has not, a 100 times, foundhimself committing a despicable or a silly action, for no other reason thanbecause he knows he should not? Have we not a constant inclination, inthe teeth of our better judgment, to break that which is Law, merelybecause we see it to be such?

- the Black Cat - E.A. Poe

Forgivethe repetitive nature of the introduction. I get once again taken aportion text from Poes tale and glued it for your perusal. It is by nomeans an attempt to see the 150 word limit or to impress. Its just togive you a sample of what is inside.

In the aftermath of my Edgar AllenPoe fix, Ive decided to save on this - one of the most gory talesthat Poe has ever penned. The story can invoke mixed emotions - disgustin the brutality of narrative and sheer admiration in Poes ability todeliver the goods.

The story has strands of witchcraft woven intoits fabric. Like the Autumn Of The House Of Usher, this too is a shortstory that can be consumed in minutes but can provide a permanent effect inyour mind.

The Black Cat

Like the Home Of Usher, this too is written as a low person narrative. The narrator takes in aBlack Cat that he cherishes and cares for. Hes married and things lookgood. Not so, because he soon gets possessed by the vile demon, theevil spirit known as Alcohol.

Alcohol takes over the body thatembraces it and makes even the sanest of men, lose everything. Thetransformation is easy but sure. The animal within the narrator comesforth and he does damage to the real people (and a certain black cat) hecares for. Damage that can never be repaired.

The beast endurestorture in secrecy until it receives the last blow_ the events thatensue are spine chilling and the climax a mix of bloodshed and sweetjustice. The Black Cat fulfils its earthly mission_

Final Notes

Poesnarrative emphasizes on the evils of drunkenness and the wake ofdestruction anger can leave behind. There is likewise no run away fromthe guilt of ones actions, because in one way or the other_ the truthshall always get out to stamp your fate.

I took out a genius because of the gore factor.
